The Annual Earth Science Mixer Event Took Place at UFAZ!

On February 6, 2025, the latest Earth Science Mixer event was held at the French-Azerbaijani University (UFAZ). The representatives from local and international organizations as the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the Geology Department of SOCAR’s Head Office, SOCAR Midstream, BP, ANAS Institute of Oil and Gas, UBOC, Khazar University, Algenix, and SEG, attended the meeting. The event began with opening speech from the Secretary-General of UFAZ, Martin Godon. Following this, presentations were delivered by Damien Le Marchand and Lucas Bofillin from the Earth Sciences Department.

The event highlighted the achievements of students and staff, as well as the planned changes for the upcoming period. Expanding interdisciplinary collaboration between chemical engineering, earth sciences, and computer sciences was identified as one of the key future goals. Another significant topic discussed was climate change and the search for sustainable solutions. Given the ongoing global water crisis, the measures taken in Azerbaijan to address this issue, the interconnections between local water sources, research on the reduction of the Caspian Sea’s water level, and the management of underground waters were declared as priority issues. The importance of educating the public on environmental issues and conveying sustainable solutions and challenges to society was also underscored.

At the event, which was also attended by UFAZ students and alumni, an opportunity was created for them to establish academic and professional connections with experts from various fields.
