Governance of UFAZ

Steering committee

The Steering Committee is considered the highest staff and is responsible for the resolution of all issues pertaining to UFAZ.

The Steering Committee consists of 5 voting members:

  • (1) President of UNISTRA
  • (1) Rector of ASOIU
  • (1) French Ambassador
  • (2) Two representatives of Ministry of Education of Azerbaijan


Scientific committee

The Scientific Committee is the executive body responsible for academic issues and education process. The Scientific Committee consists of one representative from each university (UNISTRA, ASOIU and any other universities delivering an academic training within UFAZ) for each diploma course.


Operational management

The operative (day-to-day) management of UFAZ is undertaken by:

  • Director, Vazeh Asgarov
  • General Secretary, Charlotte Payen
  • UFAZ Coordinator in Strasbourg University, Eckhart Hötzel

Director General, Secretary General, and Coordinator implement decisions of the Steering Committee and recommendations of the Scientific Committee and deal with daily administrative and technical issues.

Teaching staff


Professors of French-Azerbaijani University (UFAZ) include international academic staff of high qualified French and Azerbaijani professors delivering lectures in the English language, selected and approved in collaboration with Strasbourg University.

Throughout the 4 years of the program:

  • 50% of the lectures are delivered by teachers invited from Strasbourg University
  • the other 50% of the lectures are delivered by high-level Azerbaijani teachers thoroughly selected by Strasbourg University


Permanent teaching team

The permanent teaching team of UFAZ University consists of teachers providing lectures in technical subjects (computer science, mathematics, physics, and chemistry) and language lessons (English, French).

Professors of Strasbourg University, permanently based in Baku, work in close collaboration with Azerbaijani teachers. They are focused on courses of the first two years of the program.


Short term invited professors

Starting from the year 2017 / 2018 professors from French universities are sent for 2 weeks seminars to UFAZ, to deliver specialty courses in scientific disciplines.

The application file should include:

  1. A complete CV meeting the selection criteria detailed as follows:


  1. Master’s degree a minimum level of education with a high average grade and/or with distinctions in physics/chemistry or mathematics/computer science/engineering
  2. Computer science teacher: knowledge in programming languages required
  3. Excellent level in English: applicants must be able to teach in English in their topic (mathematics, physics, chemistry, computer science)
  4. Applicants have at least two years teaching experience at bachelor level
  5. Laboratory experience abroad in the field of academic research or chemical industry
  6. Additional assets in the CV:
    • education experience abroad (full curriculum, mobility, or training)
    • familiarity with textbooks written in English
    • knowledge of modern educational methods (information and communication technologies for education)
    • PhD
    • knowledge of French language
    • postdoc abroad
