University Development Council

General framework for Development Councils at UFAZ

Objectives

Such councils, required in French law and put into practice by Unistra several years ago, ensure that Bachelor and Master degrees evolve in step with changes in the social, professional, and economic environments of which they are a part. In practice, such councils give their opinion on:

  • The objectives of the training  specialties, in terms of scientific knowledge, skills and professional integration.
  • The coherence of the existing and, if necessary, planned training courses.
  • The evolution of the needs of students and socio-professional partners.
  • The positioning of the program in relation to upstream, downstream, and mid-level programs.
  • The adaptation of teaching methods to the diversity of the public.
  • The sequencing and organization of courses.
  • The actions undertaken in previous years to improve the training programs.

To facilitate this, the development council may have at its disposal the following information:

  • Administrative enrollment numbers for the past 5 years.
  • Examination attendance rates.
  • The rate of passage from the each year to the next.
  • The proportion of students achieving their diploma in the standard number of years (4 for bachelors, 2 for masters).
  • The number of students outside the standard admissions area (for UFAZ this might be the number of foreign students).
  • The number of students taking outgoing international mobility.
  • The graduation rate.
  • The results of the course evaluations.
  • The implementation of student evaluation of courses (the proportion of courses evaluated, not the results per course).
  • Alumni information (continuing studies / professional integration) at 6, 18, and 30 months after graduation.

The reports of the DC's meetings are forwarded to both the UFAZ academic committee and the relevant development councils of the diplomas at Unistra.

Composition

Each of the three UFAZ training program development councils will have the following composition:

  • Program managers for each field (Bachelor and Masters)
  • Local coordinators of each field
  • Three representatives of the teachers (to ensure an adequate balance of disciplinary fields)
  • A representative of the administrative staff from the UFAZ Education department
  • Representatives of students in training (4 in total, to be divided between bachelor and master)
  • Two alumni
  • 3-4 representatives of the socio-economic world
  • An UFAZ operational manager from outside of the field to ensure proposals respond to the requirements of Unistra
  • 1 representative from ASOIU
